"The book was heavily criticized for its twisting of facts, errors of scholarship, logical fallacies, and quote-mining"
In a book review on "Origins of Life. Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off" published in 2007, David Deamer described Rana as a "well-trained scientist who clearly understand the scientific method and accepts that the fossil record, isotope dating and the phylogenetic tree make a strong case for an Earth 4.5 billion years old, an origin of life 3.8 billion years ago, and an evolutionary process that produced human beings". Deamer goes on the say that:
- "Sections 2, 3 and 4 describe scientific facts and conjectures related to the origin of life, from the dates of its first appearance to the possibility of life elsewhere in the solar system."
- "The references are up to date [...] and would be recognized by any researcher having expert knowledge in this area."
